1968

A bunch of long time guys drop off, including the two ’67 winners: Newt Allen, Roy Cullenbine, Ernie Lombardi and Red Ruffing after 15 years, and PeeWee Butts, Ferris Fain and Bobby Thomson from lack of support.

Like ’67, this isn’t a very strong year for new nominees; but ’68 does have one name that’ll probably be elected. Over the next 7 elections, we’re going to see a number of A and B Grade HOFers, with a number of C and D Grades as well. No one of note in ’76, and then, we’re going to get swamped again for at least a decade.

1968 was the “Year Of The Pitcher”. I doubt if we elect one this year. We might not even see one crack the Top 5.
